Who is Guan Yin/Kuan Yin?

Guan Yin (also spelled Kuan Yin, Kwan Yin) is the bodhisattva of compassion venerated by East Asian Buddhists. Commonly known as the Goddess of Mercy, Guan Yin is also revered by Chinese Taoists as an Immortal. The name “Guan Yin” is short for Guan Shi Yin which means ” Observing the Sound of the world” in Chinese.

Guan Yin is one of the most valued and honored of all the gods among the Chinese. She provides protection, safety and good luck to its prayers. She is favored especially by the fisherman who they look for to protect them from dangers at sea. Guan Yin also protects people from natural disasters such as floods & earthquakes. A Buddhist will almost always call out “Namo Guan-Shi-Yin Pusa” if they were in trouble and in situations that put their lives in danger.
